Prep Your Home

Hey everyone!  I thought I'd add a bit of info on getting your home ready for selling it.  There's a lot you could do, but one of the most important thing you could do, is declutter as much as possible.  The less clutter, the larger the home seems, and buyers look for that.

With that in mind:

General:

  • Thoroughly clean the whole house (vacuum, mop, clean countertops and windows) the day before photos or open houses

  • Turn on all overhead lights and lamps

  • Replace all burned out light bulbs

  • Turn all ceiling fans

  • Turn TVs and computer screens off

  • Open blinds/window treatments to let in outside light

  • Remove personal photos

  • Make all beds

  • Remove small floor rugs to reveal flooring

  • Place all jackets/shoes in closets

Kitchen:

  • Clear counter tops completely. No knife blocks, baking supplies, etc.

  • Remove all small appliances (can leave out coffee maker)

  • Clear outside of refrigerator of magnets, papers, photos, etc.

  • Hide garbage cans in pantry or closet

  • Remove dishes from sink, place in dishwasher

Dining room:

  • Clear table, dust and polish table top

  • Use decorative place setting if available

  • Feature one centerpiece such as a bouquet of flowers

  • Straighten all chairs and space them evenly

  • Remove child seats/booster chairs

Living Areas:

  • Remove stacks of magazines, papers, mail

  • De-clutter fireplace mantel/hearth

  • Clean interior of fireplace, repaint if needed

  • Fluff and arrange furniture pillows

  • Remove kids’ toys

Bedrooms:

  • Make beds, include decorative pillows/shams if available

  • Clear nightstands of all personal items

  • Store away phone/tablet charging cables

  • Remove all cutter from top of dressers

  • Remove family photos from walls

  • Clean under bed, removing items that may show in the photos

  • Remove personalized names from walls

  • Remove wall stickers/posters

  • Remove diaper genies

Bathrooms:

  • Clear counter tops completely. No soap, toothbrushes, medications, etc.

  • Put toilet seats and lids down

  • Close closet doors

  • Remove shampoo, soap, etc. from showers and tubs

  • Remove dirty towels – leave out only clean, unused hand towels

  • Remove floor mats

Pets:

  • Place food and water bowls in pantry or closet

  • Place pet beds/toys in pantry or closet

  • Use lint roller on furniture to remove pet hair

  • Contain pets in hidden crate or outside

  • Clear backyard of pet waste/toys

  • Secure all pets, for safety reasons

Exterior:

  • Close garage doors

  • Remove cars from driveway and front on house

  • Clean up landscaping (mow, trim, clear leaves)

  • Remove empty planters

  • Use broom to remove cobwebs from eaves and door frames

  • Remove visible water hoses

  • Remove toys, etc.

  • Clear porch, tidy up outdoor tables/chairs/cushions

  • Clean pool

  • Remove pool vacuum/cleaner hose

  • Hide pool cleaning supplies

  • Turn on pool fountains/water features

  • Remove trash cans
